...now to figure out how to get the forum to do what I want it to do...

Menolly wanted a place to get super super organized with all of her yummy yummy recipes. Since I love food, I was happy to go along with that.

Hopefully everyone else will also love her recipe database, and perhaps even contribute some of their own favorite recipes.

I know that probably made no sense because it is the middle of the night.

But you could divide the index into the different subdivisions you need, then put links in for the recipes.

Example:

Desserts

Pies

Chocolate Chip Pie


Cakes
another link to cake recipe

Announcements will appear on every page of the forum at the top of the page, so it's usually a good idea to limit them in number (2 or 3 are fine...10 might be too many...). Announcements always appear before stickies, and the stickies only appear on the first page of the forum. Um, if a thread is locked (if you wanted to lock an index thread, for example) it means that no one else can post in that thread...but you can always unlock it to work on it and then lock it back up. Yes, the announcements (and the stickeys) will move around a bit depending on when someone last posted...but if you limit the number of announcements that should not matter, as they are usually limited in number and appear at the top of every page.

And questions are always fine. Hopefully someone will always have or be able to find an answer to them.

Yeah...posts to stickies still won't put the sticky above any announcements.

Announcements are always at the top. If you had two announcements though, posts, (but not edits), will move them one above the other and vice versa. You can post in a locked announcement that you made, nobody else can.

Yes, announcements are always on top, of every page of the forum.

Then are the stickies, but they only appear on the first page of the forum.

Then come all of the other threads.

If someone posts in an announcement it will bump it to the top of the announcments, but it will still be on top of the stickies and regular threads. If someone posts in a stickie it will bump it on top of the other stickies, but will still be below the announcements and on top of the regular threads.

As the forum mod, you can play with a locked thread, but no one else but the admins can (and we would have no reason to).
