That's a scary chapter - the tension is building steadily now. It's what I particularly like about ToA, the sense of terror, of not knowing what's going to happen next!

When Kossil staggers when cursed, it is the first time in the book I wonder if the Nameless Ones are real, and if Tenar has power as their priestess. Up until this point, it always seems as though Arha is powerless (and carefully kept that way by Kossil), and that the Nameless either do not exist at all, or are deeply sleeping...

I've always read that more as Kossil being taken aback at Arha standing up to her more than Kossil feeling Arha's control of calling upon power.
But I also always say, "behind the mask of every religion, is the Face of The All..."
There is power simply in belief, regardless of what one believes.
