WoE Chapter 1: Warriors In The Mist

Personally, I run into a problem here. I think the Earthsea books got progressively better and better, with WoE the worst of the lot. That said, the first chapter does hint at the potential in the descriptiveness, but I personally found the initial character development a little weak.

As soon as I find my books, I'll post an example of what failed to grab me at the start.

I love these books too much to get into it with you. And I've been kind of tired of being critical in the past few years. But maybe when I find a copy of WofES in the next week-I'll read along and try to refute you.

1. I try not argue with people over matters of personal taste. I do not mind expressing my own opinion, no matter how much it might differ from that of other people - but it is firmly my belief that each person's opinions on matters of art are their own, should not be subject to be seriously pooped on by others, and equally valid, provided that the opinion is not made out of profound ignorance (and since we are all avid and experienced enough readers here I feel that none of us could be profoundly ignorant about most books that we read - no matter how much we might disagree about said books). :wink:

Well, I never much considered how much character development was in this first chapter. I don't expect much this soon. But, in fact, I guess there is some. We learn how his father treated him. Perhaps that helps explain some stupid things he does in the near future. Despite his great potential, which his father likely didn't even know about until the fog, his father did little more than beat him up. He may be a bit more eager to prove himself than others are.

Yeah, a bit difficult to understand the feeling I have for Gont with only the first couple chapters. But just you wait!!

Having never read the series, I am very happy to have been pointed to a dissection so that I can read A Wizard of Earthsea in conjunction with the dissections.

And having read the 1st chapter that I very much enjoyed, I feel it will be a fulfilling journey!
