I was really torn on whether to put this thread in horror or in fantasy, as this is one of those series that could be considered either one...
Kelley Armstrong is a female Canadian author of this paranormal series, as well as a more traditional crime/thriller series.
For the
Women of the Otherworld series, the books take place in the afterworld, the US, and in her native Canada...
The series thus far has seven books, and as the series title would indicate, they are about women of supernatural races - humanoid but not human.
The books (thus far) are :
Bitten
Stolen
Dime Store Magic
Industrial Magic
Haunted
Broken
No Humans Involved
They are a true series, in that each book builds on the last, but she changes the main characters every couple of books, to tell a different part of her story. This really keeps the series fresh!
So far three of the books,
Bitten,
Stolen, and
Broken, focus on Elena Michaels, a Canadian college student turned werewolf, and on her Pack. Two of the books,
Dime Store Magic and
Industrial Magic, focus on Paige and Lucas, who are a witch and a sorceror.
Haunted focuses on a ghost and the afterlife. And
No Humans Involved focuses on a necromancer. Yet all of the books build on each other (yes- they should be read in order) and the former main characters do pop in to the other books as the story requires.
I find them to be interesting and pretty gripping - they are all hard to put down once you start them.
And she does tackle big themes in the story. For example, Elena the werewolf must find a way to either forgive or forget the man who bit her and turned her into a werewolf. Not so easy when so much love, hatred, and passion is involved.
