I recently read Hotel Transylvania by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro which is the first novel in a series written about a vampire called le Comte de Saint Germaine. While the Comte is a vampire, he is also a very good guy who spends the novel doing his best to defeat a bunch of nobly born Satan worshippers in Paris in the year of 1743 (and they are a pretty nasty lot who like to gang rape virgins among other horrible crimes). A great adventure story, and a whole lot of fun to read. Someday I hope to track down more books in this series. And it was refreshing to read about a vampire who is a genuine hero and who is not oversexed and angsty (yes, I have probably read too much of Laurell K. Hamilton! ). Has anyone else here read the Yarbro books? Does the high quality continue after the first novel? |

I am a quiet fan of Yarbro and Saint Germaine. I do believe Hotel Transylvania is the best written of the Saint Germaine stories, but I love them all. He remains true to his character, and the last short memo from him to his lifelong love at what I believe is the end of the series is both heartlifting and heartwrenching. :::it's been years since I read them, so she may have come out with something new in the series since then::: |
