I recently finished reading a short story collection by Ray Bradbury called The October Country. While I have read many of his science fiction short stories, such as those collected in The Martian Chronicles, I have never read any of his horror stories before.

While many of the stories in this collection date back to the 1940's and 1950's, most of them have aged very well. Some of them are very creepy in content; others are deliciously atmospherically creepy.

Two of the stories feature Uncle Einar, a great character, a winged man who loves to fly and is very kind to children.

One of the stories, called "The Small Assassin" really freaked me out.

Many of the stories read like they would have been perfect episodes of The Twlight Zone.

The Stories:
The Dwarf
The Next in Line
The Watchful Poker Chip of H. Matisse
Skeleton
The Jar
The Lake
The Emissary
Touched with Fire
The Small Assassin
The Crowd
Jack-in-the-Box
The Scythe
Uncle Einar
The Wind
The Man Upstairs
There was an Old Woman
The Cistern
Homecoming
The Wonderful Death of Dudley Stone
