I just came into some Lovecraft books. (About 20, to be precise, thought several are repeats. God, I love garage sales) Any suggestions on which I should start with? And please, don't ask me to list them....

I, personally, started of with, a looooooong time ago, The DreamQuest of the Unknown Kadath followed by At the Mountians of Madness and the The Lurker at the Treshold. However that was in '72 and the collections and titles have changed quite a bit since then. Any collection the has The Horror at Red Hook, The Lurking Fear or The Shadow Over Innsmouth would be a great place 2 start! Don't 4get The Dunwich Horror! Now the Dunwich Horror and Kadath have some very cool stort stories added to them...but they r both basically novellas and take up most of the book... :"> And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

Ahira, Ahira, he called out silently to the sky. Ahira, Ahira

I've been reading the Dunwhich horror (God bless netbooks) and Kadath is on my nightstand. I'll get those two done first....

I've already read "Call of Cthulhu" (god, I hope I spelled that right) and was pretty interested in learning more. I think I finished "The Temple" pretty rescently too.....

And, is it just me, or do you people not like Lovecraft's poetry either?

I like the poems, The Fungii from Yuggoth (which, incidently was the basis 4 the movie Die, Monster, Die with Boris Karloff) and The Sphinx--but I agree: many others r not so hot... And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

I liked the Fungi! And the book told me about the movie.

As per our discussion the other day, Danlo, I have ordered a copy of Kadath. (I also ordered used copies of two legendary and hard to find books by George R. R. Martin, Fevre Dream, his vampire novel, and Song for Lya, which won the Hugo for best novella, and is his first published work).
When Kadath come I will bump it to the front of the line to be read next. So...you must keep you eye out for a used copy of Zelazny's A Night From the Lonesome October... Our lives are the songs that sing the universe into existence.~David Zindell

Oh, Duchess I hope you like them! Out flew the web and floated wide;
The mirror crack'd from side to side;
"The curse is come upon me," cried
The Lady of Shalott.

I'm about to start them -- I hope that I will, too -- they're not the usual sort of thing I read -- it's probably good for me to branch out a bit. Our lives are the songs that sing the universe into existence.~David Zindell

So far I am enjoying The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath -- its very different both in language and content than what I am used to.
I am glad for the recommendation from Danlo.
I especially liked the part about the cats.
