I'm staring to read this, 45 pages in-didn't like his tone or writting right away but he says to withhold judgement and let the book change you. Kinda interesting, we'll see how the next 45 pages go....

Books and movies like this sometimes surprise me. Conversations With God being the biggest example. Then there's stuff like The Secret. I can't tell from your posts which group this one will fall into in my mind.

Well, if the book is starting to change me at all-it's not in a good way, at first; not only did I get into an arguement with my barber and got thrown out of the place without really saying a word, except how I wanted my haircut, but I made some kind of offhand statement that is, apparently, costing me my friendship with one of my most dearest friends.

Perhaps I am recoginizing the way my ego functions, and that's supposed to be the first step, but I'm also feeling very disconected with everything. Maybe taking a break at pg. 131 was the wrong thing to do, I should have kept reading...It is getting much more interesting.

Damn, I think I'll give it a skip. My ego functions just fine.

It's about the destruction of the ego and with replacing it with "presence" or the "awareness" of each moment--I'll let you know how it goes...

Geez, I piss off enough people as it is. Don't need a book to tell me how to do a more thorough job.

I don't believe in the destruction of the ego being a good thing. That's why I can never agree with the Buddhists. If I'm not me, I'm nobody.

I think it might be cool to destroy the ego, in order to see if, as they say, there's anything underlying it - and all reality. Could I merge with the Brahman? Maybe, and it sounds like fun! But, honestly, I'm too damned lazy to find out.

I'd only merge into a collective whole if I then got some cool name out of it, like Locutus of Borg. Otherwise, I'm also too lazy to find out. My ego is comfortably sitting back on its own private island, sipping a smoothie. It's not interested one bit in all this malarkey.

Mine would probably prefer it if everybody else destroyed their egos...
