Ok, so it is Halloween and one of my friends, who happens to be Chinese American, dressed up as a mythical Asian character named the Monkey King. She was shocked that I had never heard of him, and she told me that he is very cool, a story beloved by many Chinese children, and that he is a great martial artist who kicks evil ass. So here begins my quest to learn more about the Monkey King. I may add more as I have time to explore a bit. Has anyone else here heard about this legendary kicker of evil butts? edited to add: they have made a comic book out of it! The blurb at Amazon claims that this ancient legend was the inspiration for Dragonball Z! |

Yes, the Monkey King is very cool! Chinese mythology. Comic books (Here's another one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images ... 33&sr=1-12). A cartoon tv-movie many years ago called Alakazam the Great. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alakazam_the_Great ) Hey, this is an AWESOME pic: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e ... y_king.jpg Of course, it's possible that he was based on the Hindu monkey god - Hanuman. |
