Earlier I wrote: Let me restate this, just to be clear-this is proported to be a change of mindset nobody's going to die or lose identity. We are all going to enter a higher state of awareness-it will be easier for some, harder for others with this in mind a quote from Eckhart's A New Earth restates this idea a little more eloquently,
Quote:
However, in the greater scheme of thing, human beings are meant to evolve into conscious beings, and those who don't will suffer the consequences of their unconsciousness. They are out of alignment with the evolutionary impluse of the universe.

He believes that we as a species are beginning to realise that we are in a collective "unconscious" state driven by ego, negativity, and pain laden emotions and that we must recognize those patterns in order to let them go and then replace that void with "awareness" and "presence". Living entirely in the moment, as it were, and letting go of the past. Being an insanely positive person I believe that this is what we're building up to for 2012.

I'm pretty sure that the late bio-evolutionist Stephen J. Gould (I'll have to find the quote, I'm paraphasing like hell) talked about not only adaptation but that a specie's stress for radical evolutionary change builds up over hundreds, or thousands, of years to where it finally hits a wall and the species, either from experience or necessity, have to make a quantum leap either in developement or change in order to survive. I see 2012 as that "wall".

Do you think that it's been a long enough time for that stress to build up?

Although, that said, recent evidence has apparently been suggesting that evolution might not be as slow a process as we'd always thought.

Saw some interesting stuff on tribes in the Palau that appear to have been rapidly changed by their environment.

I don't believe the world will end in 2012.
Here is a fact you can all set your watch by....
If I'm wrong there won't be anyone around to tell me I was full of crap and that is so unlikely that it can't be calculated with advanced mathmatics so therefore the world is safe from extinction. nuff said

Meh...I'm pretty much of the same opinion. Although, the "end of the world" isn't the same as human extinction of course.

I totally agree.
However it bears repeating the old saying "if a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?"

Does the empty Earth exist if no one knows about it?

The bugs and the animals and whatnot will know...so will the things that evolve in whatever time is left before the eventual and inevitable death of the Sun. :D

But I mean that the world may end and still leave people around. What I hope for is the mere fall of civillisation. ;)

As for the tree, it depends what you mean by sound...the falling tree will produce sound waves. But if sound is only those waves when translated by and ear/brain combo...

Oh fine, Av, get all scientific on us, why don't you.

If Tolle and the others are right and we're heading into a new worldwide consciousness, that would be pretty cool. (Tho I've got a list of things I'd like to see incorporated into that new worldwide consciousness that would make the conservatives over in the Tank cringe. )

If, otoh, the world really *does* end in 2012, those folks who stocked up on toilet paper are out a lot of cash for no reason....

I voted no, btw, for the reason MM stated. This certainly isn't the first time somebody has predicted the Apocalypse, and so far we're still all here, for good or ill.

Hahaha. Yeah...and on the other hand, I feel almost instinctively that we are on the brink of some great and fundamental change...the crux as it were. Not of the end of the world, but maybe a change in the way we perceive and interact...

From what I've seen, it's not the end of the world, it's actually the beginning of the last epoc in the Mayan calendar, and this epoc will bring a different view of things.

But I don't believe it. Still interesting.
