PBS as part of its Masterpiece Theater is showing a series of dramas based on texts by Jane Austen. First in the series was Emma (three part drama), next was Nothanger Abbey followed by Persuasion. They've all been excellent. For your information, I got through HS with reading any Austen, so the texts and plots are all new to me.
OFF TOPIC comment. A while ago I read a commentary by on her previous perzine called Emerald City. In Cheryl's comments about Lois McMaster Bujold, she compared Bujold to Austen, after seeing these PBS dramas I now understand the comparison. Austen's texts are all about status and class, and Bujold's Vorkosigan texts are about the same things.
