Well, it is the heart of the fims award season. The Oscars (of which I have not seen a single best picture nominee this year) are tonight.

The Razzies, honoring the worst of film, have already been held this weekend.

Thankfully, I have not seen The Love Guru or Paris Hilton in Hottie and the Nottie - the commercials alone for The Love Guru looked terrible and I had no wish to see the movie. I had not heard of the Hilton film previously, and hope that I never hear about it again.

I'm impressed that the Razzies actually had the budget to do a ceremony this time - complete with opening act!

Not surprised about Paris Hilton. Her film career is a joke (well, everything about her is a joke).

Mike Myers' films have been so-so affairs for me. I would rank the first Wayne's World as one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was so boring and unfunny that I skipped the sequel altogether. The Austin Powers series was better, but even there, it's only really funny in spots. I think the problem I have with Myers is that his comedy seems too forced, too obviously set up. I did not go see The Love Guru, but I was surprised by its poor box office take; I thought Myers was a "bankable" star.

I have not seen any of the Best Picture nominees either, but I'll watch the big show tonight anyway. I only found out recently that Hugh Jackman will be hosting - the first time in years that a non-comedian has hosted the Oscars.

Oscars:

The only film I have seen that got any of the major awards was The Dark Knight - though when they come out on dvd I am interested in seeing Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button. :)

Bitersweet to hear that Heath Ledger got an Oscar - he really deserved Best Actor for Brokeback Mountain a few years ago. He was amazingly good in that movie. He had so much talent - we should have been able to watch him give one fine performance after another for decades. :(

Good to hear that Kate Winslett finally got an Oscar after so many nominations, too. 8)

I had no idea this was the 6th time Kate Winslet was nominated for an Oscar, and that this was her first win. Don't know why I thought she had won before. In any case, it's nice to see her win. I've liked Kate ever since I first saw her in Sense & Sensibility. :)

Yes, Ledger's Oscar win is bittersweet. His dad and sister(?) were very eloquent in their speeches.

Frost/Nixon interests me the most, mainly because I've never seen that famous interview.

I think that, aside from the awards, the most meaningful part of the show is when they remember those in the industry that passed away in the last year. Charlton Heston, Roy Scheider and Paul Newman were the big names that stood out to me. But seeing all the names of the departed brings a sense of closure, and of recognition to those who toiled behind the scenes to make the movies we love.
