Yesterday I put on Jurassic Park - the original and the best. Lately I've been in the mood for revisiting old favorites.

I generally buy only movies that I've seen already and regard as must-haves, but I made an exception with X2 and loved that film. I might make an exception for X3, too, as it's currently available for $6 in the bargain bin.

I did see the first X-Men film on the big screen. It was all right, but I had problems with it. X2, however, was excellent - hands down a superior sequel.

dANdeLION had lent me "Behind the Planet of the Apes" a 2 hour behind the scenes dvd that probably would be included in a 6 dvd collection set. It's pretty interesting to learn how POTA came to be and how resistant the studios were about commiting to the project. How typical. :-)

Just bought the complete boxed set "West Wing". Completely love this show, one of the few series I can watch over and over.

Juno was great-crazy, quirky, great soundtrack! American Gangster is here and ready to go!

I liked Compass (saw it at the theater), you'd probably find it very condensed compared to the book. I haven't read the book but am defiantely looking forward to the next installment.

Am impatiently waiting for "There will be blood" to come out on dvd. Saw it at the movies no less than 5 times! Thought Daniel Day Lewis gave a tremendous performance.

Re-watched 'World's Fastest Indian' last night. Beautifully judged performances all round, one of the true feel good movies which doesn't stray into mawkishness.

In the middle of the classic, Jacob's Ladder, GOD I love this movie. Haven't seen it since '92 and never realized Macaulay Chalkin played the son!! Beautiful, ominous classically inspired soundtrack by Maurice Jarre. Tim Robbins is f-ing amazing in this supernatural thriller that also stars Elizabeth Pena and the great Danny Aiello. Will post more thoughts after watching the end tonight.

I have started watching the first season of HBO's Rome (which I found marked over half off new at a local store). From the episodes I have thus far seen, I am very impressed by its quality. Not for the kids, though - not only pretty violent, but lots of full frontal nudity and fairly sexed up. If it were at the theater it would probably be a pretty hard R (for non-Americans, that means no children under 17 without adults) rating.

I'm also not sure how someone without a basic knowledge of the history of Rome at the time era of the Fall of the Republic would take it - lots of points of view, and people who do not know who the various Senators and nobles, etc. are might get lost.

We got "Rome" on tv over here in Oz, it was after the watershed (9pm I think) so the nudity wasn't a real problem. If a series doesn't do well over here instantly then it will be shoved off to a graveyard slot or even taken off the air stright away. I think I only managed to catch 2 episodes before it was booted off.

They only made two seasons (with about a dozen episodes each), as it was supposedly too expensive to make. I can see that, with the elaborate sets and costumes. :(
