I keep hearing about this author, and I recently read this short story by him. I found it to be pretty disturbing. Is this typical of his work? It was sort of well written in a sick way, but damn!!! If he meant to shock, he certainly succeeded.

Ummm...do not click on the link unless you are at least 18 years old, and are not easily disturbed. :faint: :gag: Image :faint:

Yeah, I've read that before. It is, I think, from Haunted, where a group of characters are telling stories. Haven't read it, but I think that's where it came from, and presumably the writing style in that is meant to be the particular character's voice. Personally, I didn't like it. Not because of the content, but the tone--it seems when you read it that he knows he's trying to shock, and he's playing it up with the language, and instead of shocking me (I'm hard to shock), it just really put me off his writing. I'll probably end up reading Fight Club sometime--I read the first couple of pages in the bookshop, it seemed alright--but reading that sample has not done much good for my opinion of his writing.

I really can't recommend Palahniuk enough. Yeah, the Guts bit is from Haunted, and even I didn't finish that one. Every other book, though, is solid, even if Diary is cutting it close . His last book, Rant, was amazing.
