www.meetup.com/ Does everyone here know about meetup.com, an organized (some wag will say it's the same as yahoo groups) place on the internet where folks with mutual interests and arranged geographically make plans for meetings at local coffee shops, restaurants and such? Well, since January this year I've been attending the Chicago SF/F meetup scifi.meetup.com/12/ . Once a month the group gathers at the Chicago Dave and Buster's for an evening of dinner, discussion (covers books, movies and TV) and general socializing. An average, at their monthly get-to-gether, turn out for this group so far this year has been about 32-35 people.
Then starting around the first of July has been the new Chicago Buffy/Angel/Action TV meetup buffy.meetup.com/315/ and they had their first meetup on July 13, 2006 and their are more planned. The gal Morgan who's the Chicago Buffy... organizer, by meetup's rules every group HAS to have an organizer, made me the Asst. Organizer. And that's cool.
Now consider the Yahoo group I created back in March and one of its original goals was to have face-to-face meetings for local Buffy fans p210.ezboard.com/fahirash...=160.topic and the meetup fulfilled that goal.
