Do y'all have favorite comediennes or comedians?

For about 30 or so years my favorites have been comediennes. Elaine Boozler, Lilly Tomlin and Joan Rivers in years past, and currently Margaret Cho and Suzanne Westenhover. Discovered Suzanne Westenhover last summer while driving to a scifi type con in NY and the friend I was driving with had the audio of one of her HBO specials on a CD and we listened, it was so funny. Margaret Cho, has two specials currently on Showtime cable, I am the one I want and Notorious C.H.O., and they are so funny.

Comedians, my tastes here are probably very run of the mill. But IMO, Robin Williams is a bloody comedic genius. George Carlin has a critical wit that is without peer. Billy Crystal and Howie Mandel are very funny too. My dad loves Johnathon Winters, and of course Robin has the highest regard and respect for his abilities.

Who can just make you loose it? taraswizard

A comedy troupe whose material has not aged well, IMO, Fireside Theatre. When I was in HS and starting college, I thought they were the funniest thing around, but now I think that is just so old. Realizing too, Frank Oz, an alumnus of Fireside, is the voice of Miss Piggy and Yoda. taraswizard

It depends on how you look at things-I still believe that More Science High and Nick Danger Third Eye were some of the greatest stuff ever created...as Zappa says, "It can't happen here..." regardless: We're all Bozos on this bus. *****

Bill Hicks!! I had never heard of him before; however, on Trio cable (my digital cable package has this channel) this last week they played a special about this young comedian. VERY interesting. He died in 1994 of pancreatic cancer. Designated as too controversial for US audiences, subject to radical censorship on the old David Letterman Late Show (pre CBS days). Gained large popularity and success with Canadian audiences an audiences in Great Britain and Europe. taraswizard

Someone I thought was just the funniest when I was younger (like 11-14), Bill Cosby. Now not so much, and it is not the TV show thing. Cause my lack of interest predates the TV show era.

However, I had a roomate in California who thought he was the funniest. taraswizard

Yeah, never cared for Cosby, even as a kid with the whole Cosby Show in its hey day. He always kind of weirded me out (even with Picture Pages, though that marker was cool).

If you want to hear some of hicks' stuff, though...

Which one is Hick's routine about the fight between the alcoholic and the pot smoker? That was fablulous! *****

This one? (referring to the "this is your brain. this is your brain on drugs commercial)
Quote:That's an act, that's a frying pan, that's a stove, you're an alcoholic! Dude, I'm tripping right now, and I still see that that's a f***ing egg, alright? I see the UFO's around it, but that's a go**d*** egg in the middle. There's a hobbit eating it, but goddammit that hobbit's eating a @#%$ egg! He's on a unicorn. But, no, th-th-th-that's a f***ing egg. How dare you have a wino tell me not to do drugs!
The only other one I remember is him talking about how potheads never get in fights because it's not worth the effort. ________________

The funniest man on the planet is a politically-incorrect, hairy Scotsman by the name of Billy Connelly.

Billy Connely, seen a few times on cable specials and Comedy central things. Always funny. Politically incorrect, if you say so.

Recently Entertainment Weekly released its list of the 20 top US comedians. (Can not seem to get to the list, it's in a restricited are of EW's website). AFAIK, Chris Rock was number one on this list, and Ellen DeGeneres was the only comedienne listed.

Comments? (BTW, if some one posts the list I'll not mind) taraswizard
