4: Blackhawk Down
5: Kpak
6: We Were Soldiers
7: A Walk to Remember
8: Don't Say a Word
9: The Pledge
10: Vanilla Sky
Here's a Top Ten list of the better movies I've rented recently:
1: Donnie Darko
2: Life as a House
3: Momento
4: Songcatcher
5: Pitch Black
6: The Claim
7: The Horseman on the Roof
8: Original Sin
9: Final Destination
10: Driven
I will start a Sci-Fi movie section in: General Sci-Fi Fall Far and Well Pilots!<i>Edited by: danlo60 at: 3/17/03 5:42:58 pm

A favourite pastime of mine is going to the movies or when I am broke watching them on video ..

A beautiful mind .. was brilliant .. I loved that movie

We were soldiers .. was ok .. There was nothing wrong with it .. Gibson was good .. the events were well related .. but I left the cinema thinking .. and the purpose of that storyline was?? I just thought it lacked cohesion .. the action was the action .. but what was it intended to say ..

I can feel I am not making my point very well .. but here goes .. in the end .. of the as Gibson himself in character stated .. this is going to be a massacre .. and as much as they survived ... it was a massacre .. and the final statement by the Viet-con leader .. was 'they will come and nothing will change the outcome .. it will just lengthen the struggle' .. (I am paraphrasing)

Vietnam was such a no-win scenario .. and the movie seemed to support that notion .. but when Gibson told the reporter to write about the losses they sustained .. I really thought he meant .. write about the futility of it all .. but he burst into a cloud of hawk-esque rhetoric .. I just didnt get it ..

I really enjoyed Original Sin .. Banderas and Jolie were great together.

Fav movies of all time are:

many ....

Thin Red Line .. has got to be an all time fav .. poetry in action .. truly amazing and moving!

Saving Pt Ryan .. if we're on war films .. that was great .. anything with Tom Hanks is good ..

Starship Troopers .. very funny .. clever spoof!

Gladiator .. I love this film .. its a real winner!

The Others .. anything with Nicole Kidman I go see

Moulin Rouge!! .. terrific!!

Sixth Sense .. Bruce Willis .. a fav .. love Bruce Willis ..

Also love Schwarzenegger .. the Terminator series were brilliant also!!

Alien .. with Sigorney Weaver !! also very cool!!

Lord of the rings .. naturally

even .. Harry Potter - the philosopher's stone

Star Wars .. all of them .. including the new one .. soon to be one's.

Love Johny Depp .. Sleepy Hollow .. captured this genre of story well ..

Another good genre film .. is The House on Haunted Hill .. with the brilliant and talented australian actor I cannot think of his name ..

X-men with Hugh jackman .. and patrick stewart

The Matrix .. keanu reeves!! brilliant movie ... loved it!!

and I have to go cos I am being pressured to get off the internet

hehe .. back! .. but must be quick .. now where was I up to??

Comedy ..

Galaxy Quest .. wish there was a GQ 2 (no pun intended)

Men In Black .. looking forward to the MIB 2

The Whole Nine Yards was great .. again Bruce

oh how could I forget .. Meet the Parents!! with Robert De'niro .. he is sooo funny .. and Ben Stiller .. I love him he is a crack up!!!

Something About Mary .. I almost died laughing when I first saw this at the cinema!! So good for the soul .. (is a good laugh!)

As Good as It Gets .. Helen Hunt .. loved the gay guy .. so funny!! as was ugghh forgot his name momentarily .. you know .. the Witches of Eastwick guy .. Catch 22 .. the one with Michelle Pfeiffer where she was a bird or was he a wolf or is that 2 movies .. ???

Princess Bride!!! ... a classic fav .. and Carly Ewles and Robin Wright/Penn was great .. though she wasnt a Penn then ..

How could I forget .. one of my most favs!! 5th Element!!

that french director is brilliant .. and I cant think of his name either .. *shrug* and Milla Jovevic and Bruce again!!

2 nights ago I saw 'Time Machine'!! It was excellent .. and very very tight!! The best explanation relating to time travel and changing the time line ever heard!! so cooool!!!!

oh yeah and the brilliant australian director who directed Moulin Rouge also directed .. Romeo and Juliet .. and damn I cant think of his name either .. must be the pressure .. its mounting ... !!

What I enjoyed most about this movie was the brilliance and ingenuity of placing a Shakespearean play .. retaining the language but placing it in a modern context!!! It worked!!

mmm ... I know there are others out there .. just seem to have exhausted my working memory ..

Anyhoo ... sure lets talk movies!!

god u had 2 mention Johnny Depp didn't u--well I would put From Hell about Jack the Ripper in my top 10 theater movies list instead of We Were Soldiers anyday! Tamara and I just rented Chocalat which was brilliant as was The Man Who Cried--Benny and Joon and What's Eating Gilbert Grape? (which btw got Leonardo DiCaprio nominated 4 the Oscars--he may b who ur looking 4 in Romeo & Juliet) a couple of Tamara's and my all time favs! I liked the Ninth Gate, but since nothing happened when Depp got 2 the 9th gate it was kind of a letdown. Aside from From Hell my Top 10 was , about, ALL the movies I've seen @ the theaters lately--which is, about 10...I agree w/u about We Were Soldiers--but what I liked about it was the realism and treating the N. Vietnamese as humans--which is rare...Ladyhawke is the Michelle Phieffer movie ur talking about and Greg Kinnear was the gay guy in As Good as it Gets---I am a big Mickey Rourke and Nicholson fan-- How could u 4get JACK Sky!. I'm absolutely DYING 2 c Spiderman--Wilhelm DeFoe, yea! (fantastic in Shadow of the Vampire) although 1 of the promos shows the bad guy's helicopter caught in a web btween the World Trade Centers, which is kinda sad...I do suggest u c Life As a House with Kevin Kline (I've NEVER seen a better acting job by him) and Kristian Scott Thomas---We also watched Almost Famous the other day and that was an OUTSTANDING movie--and speaking of Billy Cudrup my fav recent western is The Hi-Lo Country, filmed in NM, as was All the Pretty Horses, great soundtrack! Woody Harrelson is great as is Cudrup and Sam Eliot. I love murder mystery movies where it's very hard 2 figure out who done it--so I recommend my fav: Shattered and the Usual Suspects--Miller's Crossing was very good 2. I loved Fifth Element and Sixth Sense too...and u know WHAT big mistake in my Top 10 rentals---O' Brother Where Art Thou--gotta b one of my all time favs, made me laugh like hell!--absolutely ADORE the soundtrack! The King likes kiddie animation! What a softie! (don't worry King just don't tell any1 that Lady and the Tramp is still one of my favs!) SKY---They have this hiralious show on the Comedy Central cable station in the US called Mystery Science Theater-3000 where a dude is imprisioned in a space station and evil overlords force him, and his two cohorts 2 watch THE worst B-C and D Sci-Fis ever made! They r constantly wisecraking during the film and adlibing the lines--it's VERY silly! His corhorts r, or were, 2 robots: 1 sorta resembles a duck and the other (my hero, Tom Servo!) looks like a gumball machine. If u like Python and Black Dwarf as much as u say u do u'd absolutely love MST-3K!!! Fall Far and Well Pilots!<i>Edited by: danlo60 at: 5/23/02 10:46:24 am

<b> Actually, MST-3K (Short for Mystery Science Theater 3000) is on the Sci-Fi Channels these days (don't know what happened between them and The Comedy Channel, but it was The Comedy Channel's loss).
I have about 100 of the movies on tape, and they sell for a mint (those that aren't released on Rhino on video and dvd). The Comedy Channel's group was the best: Crow has been replaced (though he sounds almost the same).
Crow was always my favorite (part bowling pin and racket).
Absolutely hilarious.
[It really takes a great deal of knowledge to get everyone of their jokes. They range from the arcane to the sublime. BTW I don't get all the jokes, but enough to make me weep with laughter.] </b> Arise now, Riders of Théoden!Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded!Forth Eorlingas!<i></i>

Just rented 3 movies 2 were great 1 was crap. The 1st was called In the Shadows w/Matthew Modine (haven't seen him in awhile--he was GREAT in Vision Quest--one of my all time favs--fantastic soundtrack 2) James Caan & Joey Lauren Adams (she is a cutie! kinda a cross btween Rene Zellewenger and Meg Tilly) great, great movie. The other great movie was In The Time of the Butterflies w/Selma Halek, Marc Anthony (don't really care 4 his singing but he can REALLY act!) and James Edward Olmos (fantastic in Tortilla Soup, btw...which has now bcome the An American Family series on PBS)--about the 3 sisters in the Dominican Republic who helped 2 fight the horrible regiem of Trujillo--true story--very well done. DO NOT RENT Cruel and Unusual!! I'm a big Tom Berenger fan but he's getting really fat and churning out movies 4 a living instead of really acting anymore. The last TB movie I saw, True Blue, was pretty damm good, but other than that a string of stinkers--2 bad, though, alot of his movies r in my top 50 like: Shattered, At Play in the Fields of the Lord, The Big Chill, Platoon, Body Chemistry, The Substitute, Return of the Dogmen, Angel of Death (as Brigham Young's hitman!), Sniper and Rough Riders (played a great Teddy Roosevelt--almost comparable 2 Jeff Daniel's superb George Washington)...oh well... How far do you fall Pilot?<i>Edited by: danlo60 at: 6/12/02 1:29:55 pm
