OK, this ties into the Mars thread and another thread I wrote about the 'purpose' of SF literature (Check SF forum). R. A. Heinlein believed that one purpose of SFnal literature was to promote the manned exploration of space. Additionally, at a con I went to recently, there was a panel with a few members of the Mars Society. And these fellows were virtually in a state of Soma induced ectasy, they believed that President Bush's recent statements about manned missions to Mars were almost the answers to all their dreams.
