Seeing Taras' post in favorite obscure musicians made me realize how deeply music is a part of my holidays. Do you have any particular favorite artists or albums that you like to listen to at that time of year?
I know that I really like the TransSiberian Orchestra... ******************************************************

Perhaps I'll come for you myself some night. You ought to see me...my fur is white now, pale as snow, but the stature, the majesty, the power, those have not left me...We are the direwolves, the nightmares who haunt your racial memories, the dark shapes circling endlessly beyond the light of your fires.~George R.R. I have 2 all time favorite artists/songs for Christmas:
1) Bing Crosby & David Bowie singing Drummer Boy from an old Bing Crosby TV Christmas special
2) Father Christmas by Emerson Lake & Palmer

There is a good compilation CD called "The coolest Christmas ever" or something like that - it is really good!

If they ever stop picketing Borders, I will have to go see if I can find those... Since Ann Arbor is the headquarters their union has chosen both of those stores to picket...
Another one I really like is Natalie Cole's The Holly and the Ivy. She has a lovely voice... ******************************************************

Oh wow, Duchess just reminded me of this great Nat King Cole Christmas album my parents used to have. Featured his classic rendetion of The Christmas Song (chestnuts roasting etc.). Of course, back then I just rolled my eyes at that kind of stuff, but now that my musical taste has progressed beyond KISS somewhat, I would love to own a copy of that.

she does come by her lovely voice quite naturally, doesn't she?
I have a Bing Crosby Christmas CD I occasionally listen to, as well. My kids are used to me listening to every sort of music you can imagine, so they don't blink an eye, but that CD sure makes some of their friends roll their eyes. ******************************************************

Duchess,
I grew up on Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, etc. Christmas Albums - my mom actually had a quite extensive 78 rpm record album collection (anyone remember those????) Cripple but free; I was blind all the time I was learning to see

A new release that I really like is Chris Botti's December. He is a young jazz trumpet player. ******************************************************

Tam just bought Sarah McGlaughlin's Wintersong and Harry Connick Jr.'s Christmas. And while moving around the Xmas CDs we found an Emmylou Harris album we got last year but forgot about!!! *****
