I was very pleased to hear that former President Jimmy Carter was selected as the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a very intelligent man who did not get the respect he deserved as President of the United States. He has worked tirelessly for peace and justice since his term of office as President ended.

What do you think?

Right on JC! The true human being is the meaning of the universe. He is a dancing star. He is the exploding singularity with infinite possibilities.

I hope you don't mind a new guy immediately jumping right in, but this topic was interesting. Even though he's from my home state of GA, I've never really liked Carter very much. My problem with him is that he never met a marxist dictator he didn't like.

He hangs out with Castro, he visits the dictators in N. Korea and tells us what good people they are, he called the brutal Ceausescu of Romania a great man, and he supported Ortega and his Sandinista thugs even after the people of Nicaragua risked their lives to vote them out of power.

He convinced Saudi Arabia to fund Arafat again after Saudi Arabia had cut him off following the first Gulf War. Carter even wrote a letter to communist China urging them to block Bush Sr from removing Saddam Hussein from Kuwait.

He also defended Khadafy following a Libyan terror bombing. This from the man who left hostages to rot in Iran for over a year.

Honestly, I don't know how the man sleeps at night, knowing all the misery and suffering he's helped perpetuate in the world.

Must don fire proof clothing before posting this reply. Excuse me, Jimmy Carter has not been President for well over 20 yrs. And I know he lost the 1980 election by 49 votes (the number of hostages held in the Tehran embassy). So GIVE IT UP!!

Furthermore, the Nobel Peace Prize committee awarded Mr. Carter the prize for brokering the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty in the late 70s. Something you may consider trivial; however, that treaty cost Anwar Sadat his life. And the treaty stands to this day, since the treaty Israel and Egypt have not fought a war. The Egyptian-Israel peace treaty formed the basis for the Israeli-Jordanian treaty.

To be absolutely candid with information. The Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty had a down side for the US government. It obligated the US government to give the same monetary amount of foreign aid to the Egyptians and Israelis. Making Egypt and Israel the two single largest recepients of US foreign aid.

My flame proof clothing is in place. taraswizard

I think I understand what u r saying but-what xactly is the suffering u r talking about? That isn't clear...If u r talking about the US support of atrocities the Israelis commit please be clear about it--the "Hostage" thing was another matter altogether--and it is highly debatable...(Israel was getting a huge amt. of US aid b4 the treaty-and tho Sadat died-that treaty, on the Eqyptian side, at least, prevented a large # of possible deaths) *****
