Thank goodness the bomb did not work and no one was hurt. The search is on for who tried it - whether religious fundamentalist (Muslin or otherwise) or some sort of anti-government Tea Bagger sympathizer (such as the suicide bomber who flew his plane into a government building in Austin) or something or someone else entirely. If there is a hero here it would be the combat veteran who was working in the area as a vendor - who knew there was something suspicious about the car and got a mounted policeman who in turn immediately took action to clear the area and save lives. |

Saw this. Will be very interesting to see what happens to who...first they were apparently looking for a middle-aged white guy. But now they've apparently got a Pakistani for questioning. --A |

They arrested someone about midnight last night: An American citizen born in Pakistan. Still unknown if he worked with others and why he did it. Might be religious terrorist, or might be someone just really pissed off because his house was supposedly repossessed last summer... |

Absolutely. I fear the home grown guys - whether white extremists or anti-government types or religious (no matter Muslim or Christian or other) much more than foreign ones. |

Sounds like this was a hybrid act: American citizen working in concert with overseas terrorists. |

Hmmm. He had explosives training, but didn't know how to build a detonatable bomb. And they found keys to his house in the car with the bomb? And he's co-operating fully? And the Pakistanis were lucky enough to capture 3 people on their side related to the plot, just like that? These guys are either the worst terrorists on earth or there's something odd about this... Not that I'm saying there's a conspiracy or anything, but something doesn't quite gel. (Or is it just me? ) --A |

It does sound like he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed - and thank goodness for that! |

Well, I suppose that's a fair enough point. --A |

The Christmas Day Underwear Bomber was not the brightest crayon in the box, either. Whereas some of the 9/11 terrorists (who were much more successful at their horrid goals) were very bright and well educated men. I for one hope that the terrorists keep up this current trend of recruiting not too intelligent people. |

What intelligent person would want to be lugging round kilo's of explosives in a place where people were paranoid and suspicious? --A |
