Helmet for my Pillow by Robert Leckie and With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge - first person memoirs of the Pacific Theater in WW2 by two US Marines who fought there in many of the major battles. These are two of the three books they based The Pacific miniseries upon. |

Have not read that one, but probably will when and if I run into it at the library. Just reread 1491 by Charles Mann, telling of the peoples of the Americas before Columbus and Secretariat's Meadow by Kate Tweedy, telling of the human family and Virginia stud farm that produced that great race horse. |

While waiting for the latest Bakker book to arrive, I am reading a biography of William Marshall - one of the most interesting people associate with the early Plantagenets. As close to a self-made man as you could get in those days, he ended up being made a noble and ruling England as a regent for the boy king Henry III. It is called William Marshall the Flower of Chivalry and was written by Georges Duby. |

Reading The Romanovs, Autocrats of All the Russias by W. Bruce Lincoln. It was recommended to me years ago and I finally picked it up at one of the Borders closing sales. I have reached the huge chapter summarizing the events between Peter the Great and Catherine the great. |
