Here's an example of how the scoring went last year:
Quote:diamondraught 8-2 -139*
damelon 7-3 -85+^**
danlo 7-3 -130
Earthy 6-4 -120
californiababy 6-4 -151
bigred 3-7 -125
Mr. Sunshine 3-7 -143
+nailed a game perfectly!
^nailed a total score
*:closest pick of the week
We kinda fizzled out on the Super Bowl last year, but diamondraught was the overall winner and Damelon the year before ...it's basically just pick the winner and score, bonuses can tip the scales in your favor. bigred's -125 pts is how much he was off the games total scores. I've come up with a new wrinkle this year that might make the game more interesting: game MVPs--I'll give you examples when I make my picks. I probably should keep it short and sweet as I over-analysed myself out of the running during the Conference Championships, last year. Now I'll have to run around and figure out how much +pts each bonus was worth and decide how many points should be awarded for MVP.

Anyway, coming up is Wildcard Weekend
Saturday, January 6th
Kansas City at Indianapolis (afternoon NBC)
Dallas at Seattle (evening NBC)

Sunday, January 7th
NY Jets at New England (aft CBS)
NY Giants at Philadelphia (eve FOX)

my picks:
-Believe it or not-I'll go with KC and L. Johnson (RB) as my MVP, Green is improving at just the right time and Colts run D is very suspect. 30 Colts 27 (58 pts)
-The next game is a pile of crap and I could care less who wins--along with the Giants these two teams show you straight up why the AFC is the better league. I'll take homefield, and the easy way out with S. Alexander (RB) as my MVP 31 Boyz 21 (52 pts)
-I'm very excited about the Jets being in the playoffs so I really hope I lose this pick. I just think my MVP Brady (QB) has New York's number and that this will be NE's token win 23 Jets 17 (40 pts)
-Goodbye and good riddance Ants! 28 NYG 21 (49 pts) B. Westbrook (RB) MVP.

edit: I'll make a serious commitment to take this to the very end this year, here are (tentative) + bonus points:
perfect score: +20
total points: +15
MVP: +12
closest pick of the week: +10

please let me know if you think I should alter these points in any way. Thanks!

Dang I'm ready to change one of my picks already! Seattle's two starting CBs, Herndon and Williams are out--which, unfortuanely, means that Saturday's game may be child's play for TO!!! *****

Well I guess we'll see if there's interest for this game, we need at least 5 to make it interesting.

Some new developments-KC: Edwards isn't all too happy about QB Trent Green's turnovers last week and his practice this week, however Damon Huard did a good job replacing him while Green was out for the majority of the season. NE: S Rodney Harrison (knee) won't play this Sunday. NYG: TE Jeremy Shockey most likely will play and, Sea: WR Darrell Jackson is questionable... *****

Cool! We've got the minimum, and I think Guns may be joining us soon--might have to go back to last year as my MVP idea doesn't seem to be catching on... *****

Ok-to can the confusion (and it also makes the scoring easier for me) I'm axing the MVP so the plus bonus points now go like this:

perfect score: +20 @
total points: +15 ^
closest pick of the week: +10 #

and, sorry for more confusion--I must be getting ahold of bogus schedules lately-NE/NYJ is on RIGHT NOW!!! Tied 10-10 at the beginning of the 2nd.

Saturday results:
I guess Bob Sanders DID make a difference Guns! Something fired up their D as they stopped LJ dead 23 Chiefs 8. diamondraught was closest to the total score, off 13. Well you're all probably familiar with the epilougue to the Tony Romo season, he botches the FG hold and is stopped about a yard short trying to run it in. get a miracle 21 Dall 20. diamondraught, again, is the closest, off 3.

current standings (these standing go through SB):
diamondraught 2-0**-16 (plus 10 bps=) -6
A Gunslinger 2-0 -31
jelerak 2-0 -21 (only off -4 on Sea/Dall!)
Mr. Sunshine 1-1 -32
californiababy 1-1 -36
danlo 1-1 -38

...so, at the end of today the closest pick of the week will be awarded--you, know my scoring system never makes sense to me until the first two games are played, I guess there IS some method!

Sundays results:
Brady: 2 TDs, and despite Pennington's best efforts 37 NYJ 16. Mr. Sunshine -4 beats Giants on a last second FG 23-20 despite (the retiring Barber's best efforts). californiababy and diamondraught -1 both are the closest picks of the week!

current standings:
diamondraught 4-0#-26 (plus 10) -16
A Gunslinger 4-0 -61
jelerak 2-2 -38
Mr. Sunshine 3-1 -32
californiababy 3-1# -53 (plus 10=) -43
danlo 3-1 -55

next week's divisonal matchups:

Please double check your own numbers--points may mean the difference between winning and losing! *****

How did diamondraught accumulate 25 points? What am I missing? That and i am assuming that my total points (both teams ACTUAL scores added and compared to predicted scores) are 63 off?

61 points (only!) Wow, I'll have to really think about scores next week.

Try as I may, I can't understand how Diamondy amassed so many bonus points. Please enlighten A Gunslinger!

That's why I tell you to check on yourselves and check on me! I had to change 4 people's total scores--now, I believe, everything is accurate. I threw out the closest score points to cut down the confusion to both you, but, probably, mainly for me-so we're now exactly like last year.

Divisionals
Saturday, January 13th
Indianapolis at Baltimore (afternoon CBS)
Philadelphia at New Orleans (evening FOX)

Sunday, January 14th
Seattle at Chicago (early FOX)
New England at San Diego (aft CBS)

Finally, we're down to the only 8 teams in the NFL that matter! Instead of making your picks today, you may decide to observe Tony Romo's national day of mourning, but hey he did manage to sneak off with the Pro Bowl (has anyone ever watched the Pro Bowl?) and Jessica Simpson and Kari Underwood!
Other than that it's hard for me to feel sorry for Herm Edwards, Chad Pennington and, especially, Eli Manning...

my picks:
*OK, on to the other Manning-like the Jets (damm I've cursed him already) I'd like to lose this pick and see Peyton go on to greatness--but since the Chargers stand in the way it ain't gonna happen this year, so, D and McNair will find a way to squeak at home-27-17 (44 points-which is close to dd's mathematical probability # ).
*It's that kind of weekend for me: D and favorites--I know y'all are going be shocked when I pick sorry Kins, I love Gracia and Baskett but Drew's riverboat saga continues...NO 32 Phil 20 (52).
* somehow Smith and Urlacher will this win, despite Grossman's antics 17-13 (30).
* I wrote this on the Watch: ...le Schott, has given me more chits and fits than anyone in the past years. I think I called him an idiot throughout the '05 season. However, he appears to have his chit together this season and is making some very good decisions and transitions. And there's always plan B: THROW THE BALL TO GATES!!!!! Belichek may be smart, but Merriman and Castillo have something else to say about it. It all ends this Sunday! GOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!! SD 27 Pats 24 (51) *****
