The Tigers are so close to clinching a playoff spot after the games tonight that we Detroit fans can nearly taste it. Now, this is not clinching first place - it is clinching the AL wild card spot (with still a chance at getting first for their drivision). They are still (barely) clinging to first place with the Twins right behind...and the White Sox behind them and starting to fall back. And the remaining schedule is much kinder to the Tiggies than it is to the Twinkies and the Sox. The playoffs this year actually might happen!!!

The Tigers did indeed earn their playoff spot on Sunday night. The champagne was flowing.

They are still holding on to first place, too. ******************************************************

Good Luck to the Tigers! They've played like they should be champs all year.

I have a feeling it could come up to be a Tigers - Twins AL final. (Kick the Twins a$$)

More bad news for White Sox fans:

Dominican police issue warrant for Uribe in shooting
Posted: Monday October 16, 2006 7:45PM; Updated: Monday October 16, 2006 9:07PM

Despite a disappointing season at the plate, White Sox GM Ken Williams endorsed Juan Uribe as his shortstop for 2007.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) -- Dominican authorities were seeking Juan Uribe after issuing an arrest warrant Monday for the Chicago White Sox shortstop in connection with the shooting of two men.

Uribe and a bodyguard are suspected of shooting and wounding a Dominican farmer and a captain in the Italian Navy with a pistol and a shotgun when the pair walked too close to Uribe's jeep around midnight Friday, authorities said.

The navy captain, Dondolin Alessandro, was treated for wounds to his stomach and hands. The farmer, Antonio Gonzalez Perez, had an elbow injury.

The Dominican athlete's brother Elpidio and an unnamed bodyguard of Uribe's were arrested Sunday, San Cristobal province District Attorney Robert Lugo said.

Uribe's agent, Martin Arburua, told the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday that he had spoken to his client, who denied involvement in the shooting. Uribe told Arburua he had spoken to police, but Lugo said the shortstop had not contacted authorities, who were trying to locate him.

"There is an order for Uribe's arrest and the prosecutor's office is investigating the case," Lugo told The Associated Press.

The shooting took place in Juan Baron, a coastal city about 40 miles southwest of Santo Domingo, according to a police report.

Two weeks ago, White Sox general manager Ken Williams endorsed the 27-year-old Uribe as his shortstop for the 2007 season despite his disappointing 2006 season. He was expected to report Tuesday to his Dominican winter league team in the capital, the Escogido Lions.

Uribe is scheduled to earn $4.15 million next season in the major leagues, with the White Sox holding a $5 million option or $300,000 buyout for 2008.

This of course, is not as bad as the horrible news for Yankees fans when their pitcher was tragically killed in that plane crash recently.

In the meantime, the Tigers are resting for a week while waiting for the National League pennant to be won by either the cardinals or the Mets. This can only be good, as it will give the wrist of our fantastic rookie relief pitcher Joel Zumaya time to heal. ******************************************************

The Cards and the Mets are sure making a series of it, aren't they? The NL pennant will be decided with game 7, tomorrow night! ******************************************************

Danlo - I was rooting for your Mets.

Looks like it will be an all Midwest series between the Tigers and the Cardinals.

I saw the Tiggies play the Cards earlier this year during interleague play when the Cards came to Detroit. Detroit killed 'em...but I do not think they will be so easy to beat now...

Game One of the World Series will be tonight.

The weather forecast has been rain for tonight, winter mix for tomorrow.

But tonight is a gorgeous (if chilly) evening.

I would think that they should be able to get the game in without any sorts of weather problems.

Tomorrow might be a different story? ******************************************************

Gord Lord, the Tigers stunk out Comerica tonight! I wish it had been a rain/snow out!

Ah well, it gave me a chance to finish reading the cinder block of a book I've been reading. ******************************************************
