A GELDING wins the 129th running of the Kentucky Derby nosing out the odds-on favorite! His(?) name is Funny Cide, or should we just call him Varys on this board? And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

I couldn't help thinking, watching that race, how ticked off the owners had to be at all the money they were losing. Unless they kept some before they did the deed.

One of the times we went to Kentucky to visit relatives we went to the Kentucly State Horse Park and visited the Champion's barn. All of these great champion race horses or show horses or what have you and they were all geldings or naturally sterile. Someone asked the tour guide how much the horses were worth and she said the amount of money and worth of trophies they had won (in each case several million). Someone asked what they would be worth if they were "intact" or fertile, the answer was priceless. Millions upon million upon millions each.

Yeah, the people said the geldings get theirs because they're so mean they are unsafe for people or other horses to be around. Potential killers. Have you hugged your cat today?

The gelding wins again! By almost 10 lengths...... Off to home for the New York bred Funny Cide.
