Another no hitter - this time for Edwin Jackson of the Diamondbacks. They have started calling this the Year of the Pitcher. |

After Bob Gibson threw a 1.12 ERA for the year, they lowered the mound 6 inches. But I think since that time they've learned that people would rather watch a well pitched 1-0 game than a 10-9 slug fest. So hopefully they won't try to adjust. |

Oh yeah, forgot to point out that Jake Peavy is out for the rest of the season too. A major blow to the White Sox. |

The Tigers look as if they have entered their usual second half of the season dive down the toilet a bit earlier than usual this year. |

Sorry to see that. And the White Sox are playing much better than I expected them to which makes it worse. |

Well, another no hitter, this one too painful to talk about as a Rays pitcher named Matt Garza no hit the Detroit Tigers (with a lineup so filled with rookies and minor leaguers called up as injury replacements that people are debating whether the team should now be called the Detroit Mud Hens, the Toledo Tigers, or the Detroit Mud Tigers). With Magglio Ordonez out with a broken ankle, the season is pretty much over, IMHO. And Dombrowski's weaknesses as a GM are now being more exposed (even to slappy fans) as the farm system is being revealed as being bare of any sort of quality position prospects (he is known for drafting only pitchers). The Tigers did not even get no-hit back in the terrible 2003 season. |

Interesting article about the Pirates. Exemplifies why I think revenue sharing can be a horrible idea (which can financially harm teams which are actually trying to produce a quality product on the behalf ones which are not). |

Revenue sharing hasn't slowed down the buy a team owners. The Marlins did it twice then dumped salary the following years. The Yanks, Red Sox and others do it today. The Braves did it until Ted Turner merged with Time Warner and lost control. So why have it if it doesn't work? |
