that was our problem last year when Miller was out for an extended time - our back up couldn't carry the load.

Yeah, sucks to be the backup guy sometimes. To pump yourself up, you have to believe you're just as good as No.1, but when the results don't show, that has to mess with your head.

I like watching good goaltending as much as a good offensive play. A team can get away with a poor offense and still win the Cup, but I don't think it could be done with poor goaltending. (Unless you had a team ridiculously loaded with natural scorers, like the 80's Oilers -- not saying Grant Fuhr was a slouch at net, of course. I just don't know how many times our former Jets got destroyed by that Oilers offense. Sorry, I digress...)

My Wings have been having a really tough year with all of the injuries to key players. We're hoping to sneak into the playoffs as a low seed, get some of our best guys back just in time, and kick some serious ass.

Another huge loss to my Wings - now Zetterberg is out for at least two weeks to go along with other key players like Franzen, Lilja (out for nearly a year now), Erikson, Kronwall, etc. etc. etc. We currently have more than a 50% turnover from players from last year due to free agency and primarily from injuries. And yet the team somehow is staying close enough to the pack to be able make a push for the playoffs. I am actually really proud of them, that they have somehow miraculously managed to stay competitive even with all of the injuries and other drawbacks.

Hanging on to 1st place (I think), not 1/2 way thru the season, but looking pretty good - need to score more goals!

btw Duchess - your Wings woes sound like the Bills offensive line - of the 9 starter at the beginning of the season....they have 2 of those 9 still playong, all the rest are different/retreads/3rd string.....its no wonder our QB'S suck

I don't know what it is, that sometimes a particular team (in any sport) just seems to have a rash of horrible injuries that wipes out their season.

I had to work on New Year's and missed this year's Winter Classic at Fenway park. Hear it was a good game though, with Boston beating Philly in overtime.
