I actually feel sorry for the winner - he did win it fair and square - but he will always come in second in people's memories to Watson. He will be the answer to trivia questions for years to come!

The last golf major of the year - the PGA Championship - is upon us. It's looking to be a good final round, too. Heading into Sunday, Tiger Woods has a two-shot lead over defending champ Padraig Harrington, who made a good charge on Saturday, as well as the rest of the field. They kinda served notice that it wouldn't be a cakewalk for Tiger this time around. However, the stats do point out that Tiger has been perfect in winning majors when he has lead or co-lead after the second round.

Another event I'll be following Sunday is the final of the Rogers Cup tennis tourney (formerly the Canadian Open). Andy Murray will play Juan Martin Del Potro. Murray became the No.2 player in the world after his Saturday semifinal win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. This is the first time someone other than Nadal or Federer has held the No.2 rank since 2005 - testament to how dominant Nadal and Federer have been, and to how good Murray is now.

A stunner at the PGA Championship: Y.E. Yang of South Korea bests Tiger Woods to become the first Asian (on the men's tour) to win a golf major! He deserved his victory, too. Yang played some fantastic shots in the final round, while Tiger simply could not make his putts fall.

Usually it is Tiger who comes roaring out of nowhere to win in the last round. Guess he now knows what it feels like to lose in such a fashion.

I'm pretty surprised that this is the first Asian guy to win a major, given that there have been some pretty good male Asian golfers on the tour, such as Vijay Singh - or is he considered to be a Pacific Islander?

Yes, there are outstanding Asian and Asian-American women golfers - and some do consider Tiger Woods to be Asian-American as well (though he comes from many racial groups, so to me he would be hard to pin down into any major ethnic group other than a generic "American").

Good sports comedy this morning watching the Lions highlights (should probably be "lowlights") from yesterday's preseason game againt the Browns on TV. God, they look to suck again this year.

Back in the mid-90's, our Blue Bombers in the CFL were pretty awful too, though they can't quite match the Detroit Lions' astounding record of futility.

In other news...US Open Tennis began today!

And your Blue Bombers just picked up the greatest side show and thug in recent NFL history - PacMan Jones.

I just saw a clip of Bomber management evading questions about Jones at a media conference.

It does look embarrassing for us, after reading up on Jones. I generally believe in second chances, but this guy had already been suspended twice by the NFL.

I read that other CFL teams in the recent past had also courted less-than-honourable NFL players. Somehow, I don't think the CFL is making a good impression of itself by allowing these maneuvers.

Weird but thrilling match at the US Open today between Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams. Kim bagelled Venus 6-0 in the first set, then Venus bagelled Kim in the second set. Kim was able to put away Venus 6-4 in the third.

Clijster is the comeback story at the Open. The last time she played this championship, she won it, back in '05. Then she retired from the sport to be a mom. Now she's back, and she looks very, very good. I mean, she comes out of retirement and defeats the #3 seed!

Watched another good women's match last night between Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, who won the Open back in '04. The quality of tennis was better overall than in the Clijsters-Williams match. Kuznetsova was the more physically dominating one whose forehand was scarily powerful, while Wozniacki was a classic counterpuncher. It was a seesaw battle between Kuznetsova's experience and Wozniacki's youth, resulting in tiebreaker sets. But in the end, Kuznetsova's nerves got to her, whereas Wozniacki was steady and fearless. Wozniacki will play American Melanie Oudin in the quarterfinals - a battle of teenagers!

And your Winnipeg football team has supposedly decided against signing Jones.
