The Sword of Truth books are almost the exact opposite of an impressionist painting. Up close it looks pretty good, but when you start looking at the whole thing, it gets pretty fuzzy. At least Goodkind tries to say something in his books, lately. They all have different messages. Don't agree with them, exactly, but, still.

Now, what I want to know is, what the heck is up with that ponytail? ________________

I read Wizards First Rule when i was about 14, i loved it at the time, but now when i read it again i find it as unbearable as WoT. Predictable, unrealistic and sometimes childish characters with subplots coming out of their arses. There is not much in these books, but they follow the usual tradition of managing to get at least 600 banal pages out of each release, i don't know, i guess it's good for marketing somehow?
Goodkind tries to be a bit more grown up in his themes and actiony bits than Jordan (not that hard), but it is still just another gloss filled, pulp fantasy series. yawn.

Were my eyes deceiving me or did I see a Goodkind book as the #1 fiction bestseller in the paper yesterday? *****

I stopped reading them after the aforementioned Pillars of Creation ~ one of the few authors and series I have ever just given up on ~ but he is still writing them, I believe he has a new one quite recently out, and yes - I do think it is on the best seller lists. ******************************************************

Can you believe there is a TV series based on his series which will be on air in November?

I wonder if they will show the chapters' worth of S&M torture with the electric buttplug from the first book?   Or the orgy with the evil sorcoresses with the monster with the barbed penis?  Or the evil chicken which was not a chicken?   Or the guy who rapes and tortures elderly women?

He realized that on some deep level, the grains and pulses and other vegetable foods that he had eaten for so many years had never truly satisfied him. Always, buried in the tissues of his heart and belly, there had burned a deep desire to consume the meat of another animal and to taste the marvelous tang of blood once more. War in Heaven, p. 387.
