Finished up my reread of TJE in preparation to read TWLW.
Some general impressions which I will not bother spoiling...
Bakker has been quoted as saying that the Prince of Nothing Trilogy will be to the eventual entire story as The Hobbit is to the LOTR. You definitely get that feeling when you read TJE. The Holy War is merely a prequel to something much more important...
Also, the vibe I get from this book is the moral quandary of committing greatly evil acts with the goal of doing great good. What if you become a monster in order to save the world? It will be interesting to see of that continues through the second trilogy...
Also, the whole Slog storyline is a definite tribute to LOTR.
