Recently I read Susan Cooper's fantasy series, The Dark is Rising Sequence. The books are called :

Over Sea, Under Stone
The Dark is Rising
Greenwitch
The Grey King
Silver on the Tree

While written for Yong Adults, I found them to be a very good read.

They tell the story of an ancient struggle of Light and Dark, set in Britain. They are primarily set in the modern day, but Arthurian myth and legend and a bit of time travel is mixed in.

The first book is a sort of prologue, introducing some characters who will make a reappearance in later books, and the one character who will appear in all five of them.

As the books continue, the final battle between Light and Dark approaches, and certain quests and tasks must first be completed by the various characters.

Very fun read, particularly for people with an interest in Arthurian and/or Celtic legends. ******************************************************
