I am hearing all sorts of great things about this book! Any1 out there read it? And what can u tell us? Mathematics is a game. It's pieces are the axioms we create, and it's rules our logic. That mathematics is occasionally useful to mechanics and pilots is accidental -Mahavira Lal, third Lord Cantor

Danlo -

I am reading it at present. It's rather good, alternative History style. I'll give you a review when finished. Aure entuluva !

oooo--that's a rare and tuff style--the last good 1 I've read is The Secret Asencion or Alas Philip K. Dick is Dead by Michael Bishop--I've read a slew of stinkers in that genre--I think there's 1 out there that's pretty good about the 1930s and 40s w/o Hitler, but can't remember it's name right now...**eagerly awaits Berenc7's review** Mathematics is a game. Danlo - as a rule I don't go much on that Alt Hist style, but like you say Ford's work has so many recs that I thought I'd give it a go.

Plus it was another excuse to buy yet another Gollancz Fantasy Masterwork. Aure entuluva !

Danlo passed this book on to me last year, with a high recommend, and I loved it! It is set in an alternate Europe, where Richard III is a good guy, there are vampires, and magic works.

One thing I really loved about it, is that it showed the consequences of bad things in people's lives. In so much fantasy, someone's family or village might be wiped out, and its more or less forgotten in a few chapters. In this one, the grief is long lasting and significant when something awful happens to somebody. Much more realistic that way. ******************************************************
