I thought at first that this would be a topic that no one would have an answer for because of the following:
If it's that bad, one probably wouldn't even finish it.
Then I thought, "Well, not everyone is like me. Maybe someone has actually finished what he/she considers the worst book he/she's ever read."
There's been many a book that I've disliked, and I don't waste any extra time reading it. In fact, I give every book the 50-page test to hook me. After that, it goes on EBAY or to a garage sale (if it fails the test).
So, does anyone have a worst book ever read title?
Does anyone have a similar system for stopping the reading of a book? Arise now, Riders of Théoden!Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded!Forth Eorlingas!

I was afraid of that. I'm still hoping that someone will give us their idea of his/her worst book (if anyone finishes one). Arise now, Riders of Théoden!Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded!Forth Eorlingas!

Easily The Green Rider by Someone Britain I think, I had no choice because I run out of books on Holiday and it had been left behind in the hotel, didn't look very well read, I wouldn't be surprised if I am the only one ever to get to the end, but it was that or one of my wife's smutty romances (I think I would choose the smutty romance next time) There are of course hundreds of books I have never finished which are probably worse than this one - The Colour of her Panties by Piers Anthony for example.

Good 2 c u Prince! Hey! u reminded me of the worst book I ever read--I said this in Sci-Fi but I'll say it here: Orn by Piers Anthony--talking dinosaurs--just can't handle it! The gas-bubbly float-in-the-air creatures were fairly cool but the rest really sucked! I'll have 2 think about Fantasy--I'm sure it was something by Brooks or Jordan tho...this is what I'd like 2 do 2 those 2: ! How far do you fall Pilot?Edited by: danlo60 at: 6/6/02 7:52:50 am

The Last Herald Mage Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey is atrocious. I had borrowed the whole trilogy from the library and was feeling stubborn so I finished it hoping it would get better. It didn't. The focus of the trilogy is in boring wishy-washy relationship stuff and action plays minor part. And there are telepatical horse-companions. Blech!

For some reason there actually are fans of Mercedes Lackey, the queen of tripe, and they have said The Last Herald Mage is her best work and admit some of her OTHER stuff is pretty atrocious. I wouldn't know because I have decided to keep well clear of Lackey.

Off topic: Nerdanel, do you post on TORC as well?

On topic: Kiss of Shadows by Laura Hamilton was the most atrocious book I've ever read. Soft porn packaged as Fantasy. No interesting plot, merely descriptions of how sexually attracted each and everyone is to the female lead, who is a modern day Sidhe...

I'm the same person. I figured it would be a good idea to select a really obscure Tolkien character to avoid duplicates. Still, there had been someone with the same username minus the capitalization on TORC who had the 3 posts in Tolkien Virgin and who was removed when the email thing was started and our names would have conflicted. There is someone else with my name on Ezboard too and I had to take a local account.

The Red Pony by John Steinbeck was TERRIBLE. The book had no point whatsoever and each of the four chapters had nothing to do with each other except that it involved this kid named Jody. I believe I burned it when I was done. What crazy person watches soccer at four in the mornin?

LOL, King Mudd! Reminded me of a book that we read in class over a period of weeks. We kept hoping that it would get better--it didn't! At the end of the book, the students and I requested permission to burn the book, but the principal nixed the idea (said that people might think we were into book burning). Arise now, Riders of Théoden!Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded!Forth Eorlingas!

Whispers by Dean Koontz. Only horrible book I ever made myself finish. Come to think of it, I don't like much of his work.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.

I liked Lightning but Koontz--didn't care 4 anything else... The power of ahimsa is not just the readiness to die. It is the willingness to live. To live utterly without fear - this is a fearsome thing.
