I can't remember any particularly graphic sex scenes, or particularly gruesome violence in those books...

However, I will also say that I have found this series to be frustrating, as it has gotten to be very long and there are no signs that the author will be ending it in the near future.

But every person's tastes differ, and you might not have the same reaction I have had!

If you are looking for a new read, you might want to consider Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. I know you like cats and that is a stand-alone fantasy novel with a cat as the hero. Williams creates a whole cat-world-view in that book -- there is a cat language and mythology, etc. There is a thread dedicated to it in the Williams forum, if you think you might be interested in it.

I think even the earliest books were boring and generally not too good although they have many fans. Lately it seems Jordan has dropped the ball completely. The book ten, Crossroads of Twilight, has 1½ stars on Amazon.com and some really scathing reviews. The common thread is the complaint "nothing happens" and as those reviews are mostly written by former Jordan fans with a high tolerance for slow action, I think they should be taken seriously. The series is still unfinished and will be for years to come.

Good question. I have the first book, and haven't heard enough good stuff about it to start it yet. (As I have for Martin and Zindell.)

But if you haven't read it yet (oh no, here he goes again! ), my recommendation would be for you to read the Earthsea books by Ursula K. Le Guin. A Wizard of Earthsea is the first in the series.

Go now! Turn off your computer and run! ______________
Highdrake's mastery of spells and sorcery was not much greater than his pupil's, but he had clear in his mind the idea of something very much greater, the wholeness of knowledge. And that made him a mage.

Nerdanels' right..all of the Wheel of Time that I have read (about half of book 1) was pretty bad...I mean, you have read TCTC, which is far superior to WoT. Further up, and further in!

I've been reading Wheel of time fan-fic at www.dragonlibrary.com The insane humor section is really good. And Highdrake, I shall not turn off my computer and run. I am a brave coward when it comes to reading. The Earthsea novels are on my reading list though.
