I've read about 53 of the entries, if I count reading one or two books in a series and in some cases listening to the audio book (listened to the first Gormenghast book, and know for sure I don't need to read, watch or listen to anymore). I should've put Stars My Destination on there, but I can never remember the name, and it came at the end. Should've gotten Mordant's need in there, too. I read it probably 20 years ago, but definitely should read it again. I still have the paperback.

I probably would bump out Lord of Light, but I figure Zelazny needs help. There's not much point in voting for Tolkien. Gee, do you think he'll take the top 2 spots, lol? I wouldn't put him in my top 10, anyway.

I would've put Katherine Kurtz in there as well, but those dinks didn't have her as an option. Thank goodness 1632 was there, though (talk about a wasted weekend).

Poking around the NPR site, it looks as though readers got to nominate authors/books. But, like I said, I got there in the last days of voting. I can't remember all of whom I voted for, but like you, I skipped some I knew everyone would be voting for.

I've read part or all of 45 of the winners. Looks like I've gotta get busy (altho some of 'em I won't be picking up...).

It's kind of weird to me that Dresden Files didn't make it, when the other Butcher Series did. There are so many comtemporary, pop-sci/fantasy books/series on the list, I would've thought it would be top 10-20. Maybe it wasn't even a choice? And Narnia isn't on there, but the Space Trilogy is (never read it, but the thought of re-reading Narnia makes me want to hurl).

I don't see The Dresden Files on the list of nominees I posted in the first post of this thread.

And why does the thought of re-reading Narnia make you want to hurl?

I've never actually read it, myself, though I have read other C.S. Lewis. But thinking I should read it, especially after having taken a J.R.R.Tolkien and C.S.Lewis tour of Oxford when I was in England last month.

Well, they don't list Startide Rising there, so I guess it was the Uplift series I voted for...

Only have a desire to read The Silver Chair, as that's the only one I haven't read. Some of the religious allegory turns me off, in general, but I can sort of get past that. I wasted a lot of money and seeing Dawn Treader--definitely not worth it for 3-D, but my 6 year old loved it---love anything with dragons in it (that's my GIRL!). To answer your question: for the most part, yes.
