Bummer, Duchess. I discovered (by accident, kind of) the other day that there *is* a search function in the Sony Reader software for the PC. So you can't do a search on the Reader itself, but you *can* search a book in your library via your PC. I did something with my Reader that I'm pretty pleased about. I needed to give my NaNo novel a full re-read after making a bunch of changes to it. So I converted the file to a .pdf and loaded it onto my Reader. I had to make hard-copy notes of the edits I wanted to make in the Word file (btw, I discovered you can load Word files onto the Reader, too). But it was really convenient to be able to read the manuscript on the Reader. And think of the trees I saved! |

That is really cool, Ali! Yes, you saved some lovely trees. I am thinking about saving my holiday pay and overtime for the rest of the year and buying a Sony - they are a lot cheaper than the Kindle, and I like how you can put any ebook (not just one particular kind as with the Kindle) on them. We will have to see how the economy goes, though, to see if I can justify the purchase to myself. |

(Ali - you will have to tell me if this book works with your Sony Reader. ) |

I will, Duchess. Altho it means I'll have to remember to check these links at home, where I can actually download stuff to the Reader (not allowed to install the software on my computer here at work). |

The Sony Reader store is offering a free Elric book by Michael Moorcock right now. The books there work with a PC - you do not have to have a Sony Reader to download and read them. |

Several more free science fiction and fantasy ebooks available from the Sony store - including two Star Wars novels for Avatar, and one by China Mieville (though it is the one with the sex scene between a human male and ginormous insect woman ). |

hopefully this works: Look for the "bargain-priced" under categories and they have several pages of free books - including a bunch of science fiction and fantasy (though they tend to be the first book in series). There is also a link to a google site where you can download thousands of older books for free - including a ton of classics. You do not have to have a Sony Reader to use the site - the books work just fine on a PC. (One of the newer books they have just listed for free is a McCaffrey for Menolly!) |
