Almost done with the prologue of R. Scott Bakker's The Darkness That Comes Before I like the story and the way this guy thinks, so far. Recommendation by Erikson and comparable to Erikson and Donaldson? My, my!!! Might have to go grab the sequel from the used bookstore before it disappears. Actually, these newer books are the only things that entice me at the store-I think my pre-2000 Sci Fi and Fantasy days are behind me, but I am on call for King of the Vagabonds and The Farthest Shore. After that I'll have to buy Brust's latest Taltos mass market paperback and other things straight from the publishers.

R. Scott Bakker is definitely one of the better young writers to come along lately. If you do not particularly like the first part of the book, hang in there, as the story settles down in different style later on. One of the intellectually richer and denser series out there.

Well, as promised Danlo, I've started my reread of The Darkness That Comes Before. Up to Part II. I don't think he's as good as Erikson, but I enjoy the series for different reasons. I have all three, but haven't seen the next series anywhere.

Hahaha, it all depends on how much time I spend doing other things this weekend. ;)

Over the weekend read China Meiville's Kraken. It was pretty good, but if I want to read urban fantasy filled with gods, prefer Gaiman's American Gods over Kraken. :?

I had no power over the weekend, and it was impossibly hot and humid, so was not able to do much other than read. (As soon as the power came up, had tons of laundry and dishes and hosue work to do - since we have a well we have no running water when the power is down. :td: )

I'm just very slow reading, now that reading has to compete with watching tv shows and movies on my iPod.

Busy with The Thousandfold Thought now.

Enjoying the series more this time round. (And I did enjoy it last time too. But more this time.)

That's one I need to reread. It is deep enough that I am sure I missed stuff on the first time around. Maybe before the next book...though I have been saying the same thing about Erikson and Donaldson, and have not found time to reread those... :box:

Nearly done with Book 3 of Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos series. I see why you like them, danlo -- the plot seems to be a lot like Mafia Wars.
