And what do you know...I happened upon Alvin Journeyman today. :D

(Also picked up Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep and Saberhagen's First Book of Swords.)

Oh...starting A Man Rides Through It today.

Geez, by the time I get to re-reading Mordant's Need, you'll have forgotten the whole thing already!

This should be in the sci fi section, but I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep not long ago.
Have made notes comparing the book to the movie Blade Runner; will post my comments at some point.
Will this be your first read of the book, or were you just collecting a copy?

Reading Alvin Maker #5 Heartfire today. I cannot find my copy of the last book, Crystal City, so I might have to run to the library later this week to see if they have it... :?

I was just collecting a copy MM. But, now that I've looked at it, it seems abridged or something...I'm sure the one I read before was longer. :( Been a long time since I saw Blade-Runner too. If you post your comments, I'll read it quick and jump in.

Went to a big book sale/fair/thing today and picked up a bunch more books. Soldeir of Arete, Nightside and Urth of the New Sun by Wolfe, Gemmel's Lion Of Macedon, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Barker's [i]Everville[i], (the second book of The Art), and some non fantasy stuff. Shouldn't spend so much but I can't help myself.

Abridged? You sure about that? Good grief, why would they feel the need to abridge that novel? It was short to begin with! How many pages does your copy have? The recent paperback edition I bought, that coincided with the 25th Anniversary release of Blade Runner, has 242 pages.

Plus it's got a 24-page essay at the back by Paul Sammon that briefly tells the story's long journey from book to film. Back in 1996, Sammon put out an excellent book called Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner that tells that journey in full. I've read it (twice), and think it's an invaluable resource.

102 pages. Damn, I wish I'd been paying attention. Looks like a school reader version...it's thicker than 102 pages, but the back pages are glossaries and "after reading activities." And I got it 2nd hand, so I doubt they'll refund me. Damnit.

Yeah, it can be a pain to get a book thinking it is the full length novel, and to discover after you have already bought it, that it is abridged. For me that happened with The Count of Monte Cristo. Come to think about it, to this day I have never read the full version.

Finished up Heartfire this morning, and have not had time to go to the library, so am reading the latest from Carrie Vaughn's werewolf series, Kitty's House of Horrors.

Tell me about it...and it was priced the same as a novel would be. Gutting.

Anyway, nearly finished MN Bk 2. Will do 'Prentice and Journeyman Alvin next.

Like Moonwatcher, I am surprised that Androids is abridged. Short to begin with. :? I have not read it, but is there a lot of sexual and/or violent content that would be edited out for a school course? :?

I was gonna say it must be some progressive school to allow a Philip K. Dick novel in its curriculum, but Duchess's question is better. I do wonder what was edited out. The book does not have graphic sex or violence; it's actually tame compared to Blade Runner - and BR was never an excessively violent or lewd movie in the first place.

At any rate, soon I'll look at my notes and post my thoughts on Androids vs. BR.

I realized over the weekend that I can't re-read Mordant's Need right now -- Magickmaker has the first book on her bookshelf at school. I mean, I could steal it back from her, but that would just give her another reason to avoid trying SRD. <sigh>

Reading Prentice Alvin. Will probably check out my sadly abridged version of Androids after the next book. At that length, it'll only take an hour.

Broke down and bought the latest Outlander novel for the Reader as a vacation treat. I'm about halfway through it so far. The present-day stuff is really not very compelling....

Just started Dust of Dreams. It's a little hard to get into, mainly because it's been over a year since I read Book 7, and I don't remember half the characters in Lether. But I'm liking it so far.
