I'm nearing the end of Dead Beat (book 7), and the Dresden series gets better and better. Harry is one dark dude.

Seventh Son by Orson Scott Card, first book in my reread of the Alvin Maker series. I love the American frontier setting and the folk magic in this series.

A great series. I actually bought Prentice Alvin the other day. (Wasn't paying attention...thought it was Seventh Son actually. Never read past that though...haven't ever seen the last two in this country. (Only found out that they existed on the Watch in fact.) But of the first three, I think Red Prophet is my favourite.

I'll never forget the line about him feeling the dying of the bees. And that whole thing about the "green silence" had a big impact on me.

I know most people go nuts for the Ender Wiggin books, but to me Red Prophet is by far the best of Card's books (of the ones I have read). To the point where the rest of Alvin Maker felt like a tiny bit of a let down for me because the series never reached that very high level again. :? Ah well. I will see if I still feel that way upon the rest of my reread.

I like the Ender books too, each of them for different reasons. Although I was seriously let down by the end of Xenocide.

Prentice Alvin, third book of the ALvin Maker series. At least this time I have figured out why I do not like it as much as the first two books in the series. :)

:LOLS: I had bk 1 for years, but although I read bk 2 from the library, I never could find a copy for myself. Then years later, I stumbled across a very second hand one in a bookshop in London. (Found a replacement copy of my first DT book too that night...got lost going to visit somebody.) Then not long after, I found another copy of bk 2, with a cover that matched my bk 1, so had to get that.

(No point to this, just reminiscing. )
