What's your top Ten Science Fiction series?
My list:

1-Neverness & Danlo's Trilogy by David Zindell
2-Otherland by Tad Williams
3-Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton
4-The Robot-Foundation series by Isaac Asimov
5-The Hub series by James H. Schmitz
6-The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams
7-Sector General Series by James White
8-The Demon Princes Series of Jack Vance
9-World of tiers series by Philip Jose Farmer
10-Hooded Swan's series by Brian Stableford

I just love Galaxy spanning sagas!

Now there are a couple of those I have not read, though everyone keeps telling me to read those Sector General books!!!

To those I would add:

* The Hyperion/Endymion books by Dan Simmons, heck - throw in his Ilium/Olympos duology as well
* The Dune books by Frank Herbert
* the Uplift books by David Brin
* The Gap series by Stephen R. Donaldson (hard to initially get into, but worth it in the end)

Even though they are older, I only got around to reading the Hooded Swan series and the Demon Princes in the last year. They were wonderful!!! It made me wonder how many other older gems I have missed... ******************************************************

You haven't read the Sector General books? Well, add me to the list of people who says you should.

Top 10 huh? Tough one.

Sci-fi only? Hmmm....

Dune - Frank Herbert
Asimov's Robot Series
Mission Earth Dekology - Hubbard
Sector General
The Amtrak Wars - Patrick Tilley
Nights Dawn - Hamilton
Last Legionary series - Douglas Hill

Uh, I'll add to it later. Too lazy to think more on this now.

I tell ya, Arthur C. Clarke's Rama books get no respect. Mind you, I haven't read a lot of other sf series, so what do I know, huh? Still, I'll continue to pimp Rama til the cows - or the Ramans - come home.

Interesting choice of Hitchiker's Guide among the top ten of Bardo's list. There's certainly plenty of fiction (and very witty fiction, too) but I'm not sure how much science there is. Let's just say that if I were describing the Hitchiker's Guide to a friend, "science fiction" isn't the first phrase that would leap to mind. <i></i>

Hitch-hker's Guide is, among other things, a very funny satire of Science Fiction clichès. i "Don't believe anything you hear, but don't disbelieve anything,either"<i></i>

I dunno...I'd count Hitchikers Guide as sci-fi. I might add "comedic" to it, but I think it's still pretty valid.

(And deserves inclusion on my own list probably.)

Another one I would add would be the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold.
