Well I honestly admit I stole this idea from ASOIAF but here goes:
1. Mallory Ringess-Neverness
2. Bardo-Neverness & A Requiem for Homo Sapiens
3. Danlo-A Requiem for Homo Sapiens
4. The Mule-Foundation
5. Duncan Idaho-Dune
6. Helward Mann-The Inverted World-Christopher Priest
7. Martin Silenus-Hyperion
8. Jestak-The Breaking of Northwall-Paul O. Williams
9. Emerson D'anite-The Uplift Series-David Brin
10. Fannie Mae-Whipping Star-Frank Herbert
Hon mention 2: Han Solo, Hal the computer and Dr. Beverly Crusher (ooh BABY!) --p.s. there is now a similar thread in Gen. Fantasy...

No particular order:
The Shrike from Simmons's Hyperion
Cordelia Vorkosigan and her son
Miles Vorkosigan from Bujold's Barrayar books
Paul Atreides and Duncan Idaho from Dune
Captain Creideki from Brin's Startide Rising
Yeah, I'd have to agree with Ruth the White Dragon
(he's my favorite dragon from the Pern books)

I would definitely put Ender Wiggin and Bean on this list, from Ender's Game.

Yes, Ender and Bean are both cool. I'll add 'em both to my list, too.

Some of mine are media type characters without any correspondence in literature. Sorry. These are not listed in order.

Michael Valentine Smith - Stranger in a Strange Land
Phineas Fogg - Around the World in 80 days
Capt. Jean-Luc Picard - Star Trek TNG
Mr. Spock - Star Trek TOS
Kira Nerys - Star Trek DS9
Paul Atreides - Dune
Ambasssador Delenn - Babylon 5
Sorry cannot list ten right now.
