I promise. I hated GotM the first time I read it. I was like..."what's all the fuss about?"

When I re-read it after reading the next 3, it was way better. Actually understood what was going on.

WOOT! Got nearly a chapter read in Julian Comstock today before I fell into a deep sleep. I am beginning to think I will never finish that book.

Trying another Hugo nominee now, Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente (Bantam Spectra), though thus far it seems more fantasy than science fiction. The language use is gorgeous (the author has several volumes of poetry published) and it is erotic without ever crossing the line into poor taste/pron. I have no idea what is going on in the story, but I am enjoying the writing.

It's starting to sound like the best way to get nominated for a Hugo is to write a book that makes no sense.

I am unfamiliar with that book, Av - but Palimpsest is worth reading (IMHO) for the use of language (the author has volumes of poetry published) and imagery. Weird story, though.
