Maybe I have a bad memory. I can't remember, but...

...what's a human? or, what's the difference? Why is Paul human but others not?

Well, according to the test IIRC, the human was the one who could think ahead, and endure to acheive an eventual goal.

It wasn't that nobody else was...it was that they had to make sure Paul was before they dared continue his training.

Not necssarily. Afterall, Jessica, (and every BG) passed the Gom Jabbar, and she's not a mentat. No, I think they're just people who are more "evolved" in a sense...people who can override the biological hardwiring.

? You mean he doesn't explain it further in the other books? Seems pretty important.

I do not think it is ever further explained than what is there in the first few chapters of Dune??? (Correct me if I am wrong, Av!)

Not that I remember...will check my Dune encyclopedia if I can find it...

Being 'human': the Rev Mother tested Paul with the Gom Jabbar to see if he was 'human'. Herbert mentions this concept one more time, I believe, but never eludes to how it impacts anything further or what a non-human might be. I assumed he was pointing towards Mentat's, which seem to be humans bread their whole lives to become supercomputers, hence the Baron's thoughts about Piter in the second chapter. It might also be eluding to the Bene Gesserit higherups racism/elitism towards anyone who doesn't have their self-control, which is trained standard BG fair.

But not all BG are mentats, (not even most), while we can probably safely assume that they are human.

(The idea always appealed to me in an elitest sorta way... )
