Sort of. It is supposed to be the end of the story as Frank Herbert imagined and planned it - but the two guys are supposedly planning another one of their prequels (this one about Paul in the pre-Arrakis days)...

Pre-Arrakis? As a child on Caladan? *not sure how great that's gonna be*

What, they just gonna keep the universe alive for something to do? Bah.

Fisty called me this morning to let me know that Sandworms is out at his local store. :) I have it on order from the book club, and it will not ship until next week...

Lemme know what it's like. Don't worry about spoilers. :D

I should get a decent number of pages read today. So far so good, but I'm only on page 30. It's just a continuation of the previous, which I enjoyed. Like I've said, Heretics and Chapterhouse are too difficult for me to understand much beyond the surface. Hunters and Sandworms are easier reads, with all the fun.

The ultimate Kwizatch Haderach is not either Paul, nor Leto, nor Teg. Really only one more possibility, eh? It's Duncan.

The book ends with the good Paul ghola and the Chani ghola back on Arrakis. I assume the next book will be about them getting things going again.

Duncan is now in charge of the universe. He is in charge of all machines, and can see through the "eyes" of the quintillions of them, communicate with any and all of them. Omnius' tachyon web lets him do all this instantly. With Omnius gone, many of the machines have virtually no life. He never gave them much independence, so they just sit there waiting for instructions. Duncan is allowing others to develop their intellect and independence. It's safe now, since all he can see if they're doing anything nasty, and since hostilities are at an end. I imagine there will be lots of times when a person or a machine will attack the other, particularly in the beginning. But the BG, the Guild, etc, know that there's no need to fight now.

Although it was nice to finally learn what the HM's were running from, I enjoyed the "House" prequels more than Hunters & Sandworms, and the Butlerian Jihad trio. Houses were great! I'm amazed, actually. I think the problem with Star Wars Eps 1-3 is that we knew what was going to happen, so few things surprised us. No suspense. But, although the same could be said of the Houses books, they rock!

I still prefer the ending of Chapterhouse to the continuation of the series, but, if those books really were based off of Frank Herbert's notes, it's nice to know how he might have wanted it to end, had he had the time.

Now maybe someone who can actually write like Herbert can do the series' ending justice.
