Ahira's Hangar

This is a rather odd book. When I picked it up in Borders they had it shelved with the science fiction and fantasy, but after reading it I think I would call it a horror book with overtones of science fiction. Without getting too much into spoily stuff, it is the story of a mathmetician (his work is where the science fiction comes in) who loses it when his beloved wife and soulmate dies of cancer. He takes off on a very bizarre cross country trip where he meets a couple of nice people and a whole lot of really nasty ones (that's where all of the horror stuff comes in). As with many Simmons' books, there is explicit violence and language, and some very disturbing scenes. I'm not really into many horror books, but those of you who are might like it.
