I found out about this book by watch Jeopardy, of all places. I take it this is a Tolk biography...who wrote/ worth buying? And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

Ahira, Ahira, he called out silently to the sky. Ahira, Ahira

The Road to Middle Earth is a piece of Tolkien criticism. The author is Tom Shippey (him of the FOTR-SE appendix) who succeded Tolkien at Merton as Professor of English Language. Shippey shows brilliantly just what Tolkien's love on Language and Phililogy lead to in the writing of his Middle Earth works. Shippey argues that Tolkien the scholar profoundly influenced Tolkien the author and powerfully illustrates this in Road to Middle Earth.

I have read loads of books supposed to explain Tolkien, and NONE of them are near as good as this. Shippey (because his job is the same as Tolkiens) understands Tolkien's sources deeply and this combined with Shippeys obvious great love and knowledge of Tolkien's works make for a masterpiece IMO.

Buy this book Danlo ! After all, I'm sure that it was me that once got you into GRRM Arphent Cirion: i 'west hen bronatha an rîn aglar Dôr-en-Êl a bronwe Elendil Sadron. Hebithar ha aen, i cherir erin erchaim ned Annûn ar i Vin i northa or erchaim phain an uir.
