Unfinished Tales is just what it sounds like. The book adds a lot to what we already know/knew. Just a few of the moments in the book:
(1) Gandalf's account of how he sent the Dwarves to Bilbo's house (2) More about the sea-god, Ulmo (3) An exact description of the military organization of the Riders of Rohan (4) The only story that survived from Numenor before its downfall (5) All that is known about the Five Wizards, palantiri, and the legend of Amroth.
The Book of Lost Tales is also aptly named ( ): Most interesting to me:
(1) The Chaining of Melkor (2) The Lost Tales of Elfinesse (3) Original ideas about balrogs and orcs Arise now, Riders of Théoden!Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded!Forth Eorlingas!
