It's probably comparable 2 Children of Dune. Like Children, The Two Towers, when I 1st read LOTRs, 4 some reason, seemed like a small-relatively-insignificant book-so I kinda zipped thru it and dismissed it. God I can't BELIEVE I did that!! There is SO much info, beauty and majesty in that book!! The 2nd time I read it it blew my mind and made me c LOTRs in a totally different light. It now remains my fav book of the series! I LOVE ROHAN!!! Maybe it was the time element that 1st baffled me--is it just me--or do things seem 2 b moving @ a much quicker pace in Two Towers than in FOTR? I know I'm not the only 1 who intially dismissed Two Towers--I think some of my local friends did that 2--b4 I suggested they reread--like the TCTC, Neverness, Children of Dune and The Empire Strikes Back some things really r better the 2nd time around. Wow! And I'm the central figure through some of it! My horse (Snowmane) and I fight bravely at the Gap! That's why I chose the name (and forum I own). I really liked Theoden taking Saruman down a notch! Great book!

The Two Towers is definitely my favorite part of the series. All the action happens in that book...FOTR is just setting the stage, and ROTK contains a lot of battle strategy and stuff which I'm not really that interested in. But TTT has the search for Merry and Pippin, the return of Gandalf, Treebeard, the encounter with Saruman, Frodo and Sam's encounter with Shelob...and lots of other cool stuff.
