Just realized we do not have a Hobbit book topic?

So...talk about The Hobbit here.

What are your favorite characters and scenes?

Do you (like I) find the differences in tone in the Hobbit from the LOTR a bit jarring at times? (For me it is especially jarring in Rivendell with the eleves being silly songsters in the Hobbit as opposed to the dignified and stately and wise beings they are in LOTR).

And what about SMAUG???? How do I love Smaug? Can I even count the ways? One of the coolest dragons ever.

And what about Beorn? I have always liked Beorn. And Thoren. Actually, I like a lot of the characters who only appear in the Hobbit...

My favourite scene is probably from the battle of the five armies...when the dwarves of the Iron Hills, having marched days without sleep, charge into battle.

There are many scenes which could look great on film with the right director - yes, the Battle of Five Armies, as you guys both said. All Smaug scenes. The trolls. The goblins. The finding of the Ring and Riddles in the Dark. Beorn's house. The spiders in Mirkwood. Barrel Rider.

It was the gem that was the heart of the mountain that Bilbo stole? I cannot remember its name, either.

The Arkenstone...that was it.
