And we have fresh snow everywhere out there today! Disgusting!

Short week this week. Friday, and next Monday & Wed public holidays, and they gave us tuesday off. So short week next week too. And the week after.

I've got a full week this week (sigh...) and next week. But then I'm taking a bunch of days off, spread over about six weeks. It's gonna kill me to go back to working full weeks again in late June...

Taking a break from redoing the backyard and putting the finishing touches (staining, actually) on the 10 x 20 deck we just built off the back door to go pick up a huge cheese pizza. Along with that I'm off to deliver juice, 21 red velvet cupcakes (made by Tam, of course) and 21 gift bags to the kindergarten for Grace's 6th birthday party. Happy Earth Day y'all!!!

danlo, y'all are lucky the school allows home baked goods at Grace's school. Has not been the case here since Beorn was in elementary. Fortunately, he went to charter schools through middle school, where the rules could be bent a little,

Yesterday was Administrative Professionals Day. The firm threw us a party in the afternoon, and my attorneys chipped in and got me a really nice flower arrangement.

Tomorrow afternoon, our department is having a coffee-and-cupcake-break. One of my attorneys thought it up, so of course I ended up having to do the planning and arranging. We're getting the cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake, the place that's featured on a TV show. Hopefully they'll be tasty....

Now for the whiny part: We went straight from early spring to summer here, with that muggy heat DC is so famous for. My apartment building isn't going to turn on the a/c for another couple of weeks, tho, so I've been running the ceiling fans and sitting in front of the box fan when I'm home. Of course, tree pollen has been off the charts for the past couple of weeks, too. Today I have a scratchy throat. Hoping it's allergies and not a cold.

Cold [i]and[/i[ wet. Unseasonal conditions.

On the plus side, we ended up getting that thurs and fri off too. What with the public holidays, those 3 days off work gave me a total of 11 days of holiday. Only have to be back on Tuesday.

Mostly food safety and liability issues. The school can not guarantee proper hygiene or safety measures were taken in the preparation of home baked goods, so if a child gets food poisoning or worse from something brought in from outside which was not commercially made, there is a potential lawsuit on their hands and they can not pass it off on to a manufacturer.

There is also the issue of food allergies. Many schools forbid items made with peanuts or peanut butters, as well as other things (although I am no longer up to date on what they are since school parties for kids seem to stop after middle school) due to a student having severe reactions to them, even if they do not eat the item.

A shame, but I do understand the schools need to avoid potential money grabbers.

The school parties didn't even last through middle school for my kids. At that point, they turned into pizza parties, and were offered to the kids as a bribe for accomplishing some goal or other.

19 years! 19 years!!! Our anniversary is today! 19 years, that's a loooong time!!

Hahaha, congrats Danlo. Coming up on 13 myself.

On Saturday, Beorn graduated from high school. His ceremony was held in the basketball/volleyball arena on the UF campus, directly across from The Swamp, where the Gators play football. Three statues of each of UF's Heisman winners have been erected since we were last there, so this photo came about upon seeing them.

Yesterday, since Beorn's grands were in town, we made the three hour drive to Sarasota so they could see the New College campus. A long drive each way, but a grand time was had by all.

Grandma headed home this morning; Poppie is here until tomorrow, when Beorn will go to spend a week or so with him at his house. After the past few days, I am looking forward to some quiet before traveling myself for elohimfest.
